What I Do For You

Naomi Dunford of Ittybiz just posted a game about making sure your readers understand your business. Since Naomi’s posting for the second time on this topic, and she’s brilliant at helping tiny businesses get less tiny, let’s play her game. What you need to do is copy the following questions into a document, and then <drumroll> answer them. Then, for big bonus points, make sure your website answers them!

What’s your game? What do you do?

Why do you do it? Do you love it, or do you just have one of those creepy knacks?

Who are your customers? What kind of people would need or want what you offer?

What’s your marketing USP? Why should I buy from you instead of the other losers?

What’s next for you? What’s the big plan?

This is timely for me because I was just trying to figure out how to tell a new acquaintance that his website doesn’t do any of this, and it’s hurting his business. Diplomatically. Maybe I can just get him over here…

Anyhow, I digress. It’s been quite some time since I first did this exercise, when I found Naomi’s original post. Time to give it a fresh look.

What’s your game? What do you do?

My business is to get more business for your business.

I do this by teaching web marketing workshops, running small business mastermind sessions, and doing private coaching. I teach my clients how to build a Google-worthy website with WordPress, consistently use fast strategies to build web traffic, and improve their web presence with social media. I make sure they know how to turn those efforts into sales, and repeat sales.

I’m the #1 person whose number you want to have when you hit a scary technical hiccup, because I’m a geek who listens and can calm you down and help you fix it.

Why do you do it? Do you love it, or do you just have one of those creepy knacks?

Keep Calm and Market

I spent too much of the early part of my life afraid and feeling helpless, so I love sharing skills that let people overcome fear and be more free and independent.

And yeah, I have a creepy knack – I’ve seriously had dozens of people tell me I help them stay calm. I can really take the fear out of this technology stuff and calm people down who are scared that they can’t do it. That lets me empower people to learn to do it themselves and get great results.

Who are your customers? What kind of people would need or want what you offer?

I help small business owners who get stopped by marketing, especially the technology side of it. Because if you freeze like a bunny in headlights and end up taking no action, you build no business. And get squished.

Many of my clients are “helpers” of some kind or another, such as coaches, trainers, speakers, healers, authors or consultants. They don’t know a lot about marketing or technology, but can’t afford to spend too much paying others to do this stuff for them.

What’s your marketing USP? Why should I buy from you instead of the other losers?

I really, really, know how to teach, and have lots of experience as a trainer. I can take complicated stuff and make it simple. Not “easy”, I can’t take the work out of work, but I can give you step-by-step instructions that you can trust will help you get the job done.

What’s next for you? What’s the big plan?

When I launched, I focused on offering my marketing workshops in my local market. The next step will be to package some of my marketing technology training for the web, so that I can serve a larger market. The big plan involves a book, and broadening out what I offer to include training on how to get out of your own way. Like so many of you, I want to change lives and make a difference.
